FDA revolving door opens for Monsanto execs

(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) - A 2010 article published by Veterans Today titled, Former Former Monsanto Exec. Appointed to the Head of the F.D.A.!, announced that Michael R. Taylor, was appointed Deputy Commissioner for Foods at the FDA.

Taylor is a former top executive (VP Public Policy), attorney and lobbyist with Monsanto and has had prior positions with law firms, the USDA and the FDA. Michael Taylor and Monsanto are responsible for subjecting this country and many others to the increased risk of breast cancer (7 times greater risk), prostate cancer and colon cancer because of what they did to milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream with rBGH as well as to all the foods that rely on milk solids and other parts of milk.

Monsanto's development and marketing of genetically engineered seed and bovine growth hormone, as well as its aggressive litigation, political lobbying practices, seed commercialization practices and "strong-arming" of the seed industry have made the company controversial around the world. As a result of its business strategies and licensing agreements, Monsanto came under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department in 2009.

Mr. Taylor was previously a partner with King & Spalding, a law firm in Washington, DC. King & Spalding defended Purdue Pharma, maker of OxyContin, in Federal Court when they were criminally charged with marketing OxyContin as less likely to be addictive or abused. Maybe Howard Udell, Chief Counsel for Purdue Pharma should be considered for a position at the FDA as head of "opioid safety."

HPV Vaccine Requirement May Be Repealed

Funny how Big Pharma always finds their vaccine to be more "successful" if it is given in several doses instead of one. Perhaps they mean more financially successful? -Ed.

RICHMOND – A Senate panel is considering a House-approved bill to eliminate the requirement that girls in Virginia receive the vaccine against the human papillomavirus before entering sixth grade.

Delegate Kathy Byron, R-Lynchburg said she proposed HB 1419 to return medical decisions to families. She said households should determine what vaccines to give children.

The HPV vaccine, called GARDASIL, was approved in 2006 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to prevent cervical cancer in females. Last year, the FDA approved the vaccine to guard against genital warts in males.

The vaccine, which requires three doses, was found to be most successful against cervical cancer when given to girls at a young age.

Virginia is the only state with a law requiring girls to get the HPV vaccine.

Byron said the 2007 law requiring girls to get the HPV vaccine was spurred by an intense lobbying campaign by Merck & Co., the manufacturer of GARDASIL.

Taco Bell is using false advertising when it calls its food 'beef,' according to lawsuit

A law firm is claiming that the fast food chain is using false advertising when it says its Mexican delicacies are filled with "ground beef" or "seasoned ground beef." In fact, the lawsuit claims, the "taco meat filling" used by Taco Bell contains is only about 35% beef, with binders, extenders, preservatives, additives and other agents making up the other 65%.

The lawsuit's claim that Taco Bell's "seasoned beef" contains the forbidden additives is backed up by the restaurant's ingredients list on its website, which says the "seasoned beef" in a Beefy Crunch Burrito contains water, sodium phosphates, soy lecithin, modified corn starch, and anti-caking and anti-dusting agents, among others ingredients.

The Beetlejuice World of Brian Deer

A question more media outlets reporting on autism and vaccines should be asking: Who is this Brian Deer character, anyway?

When asked about why autism is rising or what is causing autism. Deer responds, “I don’t know, I am not a doctor.” Fair enough. Yet why did the British medical authorities hire this squirrelly “free-lance” journalist to “investigate” and evaluate the complex medical records of sick children with autism? Insane. Why doesn’t our government hire Jane Brody, who writes a health column for the NYT, to investigate brain surgery frauds and report back to the NIH? Why hasn’t the Surgeon General hired Emily Smith (a good detective!) of “Page Six” to investigate hoax heart valve surgeries? Anyone is free to “investigate” and report anything they want but our government doesn’t commission wacky reporters off the streets to evaluate children’s confidential and complex medical histories. Can you even imagine how many personal injury lawyers would retire for life if they worked on this case here in the U.S.?

The saddest part in all this is seeing how Deer’s warped medical “evaluations” of these childrens’ records were taken seriously by any authority at all...

Committee recommends city eliminate use of fluoride

CALGARY - With doctors touting research to promote fluoridation and a few dozen citizens touting research against fluoridation, a council committee voted to end Calgary's use of the tooth decay-fighting additive and paved the way for a final decision next month.

Only five aldermen sat through to the end of a 10 -hour public hearing Wednesday on the ills and benefits of fluoride-treated water, voting 4-1 to scrap the chemical.

Since six additional aldermen have declared their belief in the anti-fluoride movement, it appears that side will win on Feb. 7, unless Mayor Naheed Nenshi and some colleagues can successfully push for further study of the issue.

Bill would warn public of mood-altering drugs in water

LITTLE ROCK — A bill filed today by a freshman state legislator seeks disclosure of additives in public drinking water, including mood-altering drugs.

Rep. Loy Mauch, R-Bismarck, filed House Bill 1205, which would require the operators of public water systems to disclose information about any chemicals additives in drinking water, including their chemical composition.

The bill states that such regulation is necessary in part because “public policy discussions of the prospects of adding lithium to the public water to alter human mood imbalances, and statin drugs to affect human cholesterol … have increased.”
