HealthDay, Aug. 26, 2011
Three out of every four U.S. health-care workers use some form of complementary or alternative medicine or practice to help stay healthy, a new report shows.
What's more, doctors, nurses and their assistants, health technicians, and healthcare administrators were actually more likely than the general public to use any number of wide-ranging alternative medicine options, including massage, yoga, acupuncture, Pilates or herbal medicines.

State Dept. Aggressively Pushed Genetically-Modified Crops to Help Agribusiness Giants
AllGov. com, Aug. 28, 2011
The latest release of government files from WikiLeaks shows that the State Department has repeatedly pushed foreign governments to approve genetically-engineered crops and promote the international business interests of corporations like Monsanto and DuPont.
U.S. officials have used “outreach programs” in Africa, Asia and South America, where Western biotech agriculture has not been established. In one cable, American diplomats sought funding from Washington to send U.S. biotech experts and trade industry representatives to target countries for meetings with local politicians and agricultural officials.
Several cables showed American diplomats have promoted biotech agriculture in Tunisia, South Africa and Mozambique, which confirms what Truthout previously reported on “front groups” with U.S. and corporate backing that are trying to introduce genetically-modified crops in developing African countries.

Clean Laundry Can Emit Hazardous Toxins
Laboratory Equipment, Aug. 25, 2011
The sweet smell of fresh laundry may contain a sour note. Widely used fragranced products—including those that claim to be “green”—give off many chemicals that are not listed on the label, including some that are classified as toxic.
A study led by the Univ. of Washington discovered that 25 commonly used scented products emit an average of 17 chemicals each. Of the 133 different chemicals detected, nearly a quarter are classified as toxic or hazardous under at least one federal law. Only one emitted compound was listed on a product label, and only two were publicly disclosed anywhere. The article is published online in the journal Environmental Impact Assessment Review.

“Smoking Gun” Documents Show Science Ignored in Approval of Cancer-Causing Strawberry Pesticide
FederalJack.com, Aug. 25, 2011
(EARTH JUSTICE) Newly released documents show that a Schwarzenegger political appointee within the state agency that approved the cancer-causing strawberry pesticide methyl iodide favored the input of the chemical’s manufacturer, Arysta LifeScience, over the recommendations of its own scientists. The new documents—released in accordance with a court order in the California-based litigation challenging methyl iodide—show that top scientists in the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) warned of the dangers of methyl iodide and strongly criticized the methods by which the “acceptable” levels of exposure were set by DPR management.
“These smoking gun memos show that state officials cherry-picked calculations to support their preferred outcome of approving methyl iodide instead of letting science guide their decision-making,” said Susan Kegley, PhD, Consulting Scientist with Pesticide Action Network North America. “Ignoring the science and prioritizing the needs of the manufacturer has put the health and safety of Californians at great risk.”

Monsanto Targets Consumers
Farm Wars, Aug. 21, 2011
We are in a race to save agriculture as we need it. We need the land to be fruitful. We need it to supply good, nutritious food. We need what we know as agriculture to not kill us with pesticides, genetic engineering, neurotoxins, heavy metals, and other poisons so liberally dumped on and in what we so fondly remember as food.
Monsanto Co. (MON), the world’s biggest vegetable seed maker, said it will begin selling genetically modified sweet corn in the U.S. this year, the first product it has developed for the consumer market.
The sweet corn seeds are engineered to kill insects living above and below ground and to tolerate applications of the company’s Roundup herbicide, Consuelo Madere, Monsanto vice president for vegetables, told reporters at company headquarters in St. Louis today. They will be introduced to growers serving the U.S. fresh corn market starting in the autumn, she said.

What’s Making Us Fat? Researchers Put Food Additives On Suspect List
Common Health, Aug. 12, 2011
Consider this slide of ice cream ingredients that Dr. Barbara Corkey, director of the Obesity Research Center at Boston Medical Center, used in a recent lecture. The few elements in yellow, she told her listeners, were ingredients that we normally think of as “food.”
There was a collective gasp from her American Diabetes Association audience, and a buzz of distaste.
In pink, Barbara went on, were some of the substances she was about to discuss. “Virtually none of these non-food compounds have been carefully assessed for a potential causative or contributing role in the obesity and diabetes epidemic,” she said.

Huge Quantities of Radiation Are Still Being Released By Fukushima
Truthseeker, Aug. 8, 2011
Radiation expert Dr. Chris Busby says that huge quantities of radiation or 10 trillion becquerels per hour – are still being released from Fukushima.
This is down slightly from some of the radiation levels observed in March, which – as I noted in April – exceeded levels pumped out at Chernobyl during the week-long fire.
But given that the Fukushima crisis has continued for, Fukushima dwarfs Chernobyl in terms of radiation released.
...
Busby brought sophisticated radiation testing equipment to Japan, and says that the radiation from one sample from Tokyo was higher than existed inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone.

Experts: Fukushima 'off-scale' lethal radiation level infers millions dying
Examiner, Aug. 5, 2011
Fukushima nuclear power plant radiation recordings of external gamma radiation have been so high this week, they went off scale said veteran nuclear expert Arnie Gunderson on Thursday after the famous physicist, Dr. Chris Busby told the Japanese people this week that radioactive air contamination there is now 300 times that of Chernobyl and 1000 times the atomic bomb peak in 1963, inferring that hundreds of millions of people are now dying from Fukushima radiation, including people in the United States.
If noticing unusual amounts of hair falling out, confusion, nose bleeds or other odd symptoms typical of radiation sickness, it might be due to the United States record high levels of radiation, now multiple times acceptable safety limits not only on the west coast, but also in other locations around the nation.

Detroit mother Maryanne Godboldo found in neglect for refusing to medicate daughter with psychiatric drugs
Natural News, Aug. 11, 2011
Detroit mom Maryanne Godboldo, who was subjected to an armed SWAT team assault on her home during an attempted kidnapping by Child Protective Services, has been found in neglect today by a Wayne County juvenile court.
The jury of that court was somehow persuaded to believe that Maryanne's refusal to continue drugging her daughter with Risperdal, a mind-altering psychiatric drug used to "treat" ADHD, equated to parental neglect. It is a sad day in America when even juries are so brainwashed by Big Pharma advertising and mainstream media propaganda that they believe refusing to drug your own teenage daughter is proof of poor parenting.
Judge Ronald Giles of Detroit's 36th District Court is now due to rule on whether Godboldo should stand trial to face multiple felony charges that were leveled against her after she allegedly fired a gun in self defense when police smashed through her door and tried to kidnap her daughter at gunpoint.
The court system in Detroit appears to be trying to make an example out of Godboldo by sending a message: "Don't resist tyranny." When the state orders you to drug your children, don't even think about saying no! If you do, armed SWAT teams will raid your house, CPS will kidnap your child, and you will be brought up on felony charges for resisting.

Family suing Juab County over pesticide spraying
Deseret News, Aug. 9, 2011
NEPHI — A family here is seeking injunctive relief and unspecified damages against Juab County and a group of its employees, according to a civil suit filed Tuesday in 4th District Court.
Blaine and Norma Malquist, along with their daughter Eileen, are listed as the plaintiffs in the suit, which alleges the county's practice of mosquito spraying qualifies as a nuisance, trespassing and negligence.
In the suit, the Malquists claim that the county's practice of spraying has a minimal effect on mosquitoes in the area and poses a serious health risk to residents. The county, they say, uses a pesticide known as Kontrol 4-4 that contains a chemical agent that has been shown through studies to cause negative health consequence.

Stop claiming food is safe, ministry told
Japan Times, Aug. 8, 2011
Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto has committed an about-face on policy by telling his ministry to refrain from vouching for the safety of Japanese food. The ministry stance changed after radiation-tainted beef was found to have been sold to consumers nationwide, sources said.
The contaminated meat is coming from cattle that were fed rice straw contaminated with cesium isotopes ejected by the disaster-crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.
On July 8, Matsumoto said that he wanted to dispel food safety concerns by explaining what the government is doing to prevent tainted food from making it into the food supply.
But several countries have since asked about the beef scare after several cattle suspected of being fed tainted straw were found to have been slaughtered and theirta beef shipped to market months ago to stores and restaurants.

Rawesome Raid: Federal Agents Arrest Owner, Dump Food
Huffington Post, Aug. 3, 2011
Rawesome foods, a private market in Venice California, has been raided a second time by federal agents. Initial reports from NaturalNews.com reveal that the owner, James Stewart, has been arrested and is being held on $123,000 bail.
Evan Kleiman, KCRW's "Good Food" producer, confirms that Stewart has been booked for conspiracy to commit a crime, and that he is not allowed to post a bond to bail himself out of jail.
Sharon Ann Palmer and Eugenie Victoria Bloch of Healthy Family Farms, LCC, were also arrested along with Stewart, reports South Pasadena Patch. The farm and its owner, Palmer, are charged with producing milk without a license or permit since 2007. Healthy Family Farms is a regular vendor at community farmers markets, notes South Pasadena Patch.
Objections to the raid are already mounting. Rawesome supporters organized a protest at the store site today. Others encouraged people to make their voices heard by calling the California Dept of Food & Agriculture.

BP disaster one year later
Aljazeera, Aug. 2, 2011
When news of the disastrous BP oil well explosion reached the residents of Jean Lafitte, Louisiana last April, Mayor Tim Kerner did the only thing he could think of to stop the oil from destroying his community. He encouraged everyone in his town to join him on the water, working day and night throughout the disaster to clean-up the spill.
Now, one year after BP managed to cap the runaway well that fouled the Gulf of Mexico with an estimated five million barrels of oil, most of those people are ill.
"I'm afraid my neighbors will come to me and say, I wouldn't have listened to you and kept my job if I knew it would kill me," Kerner said.
Kerner's story was one of many shared by Kerry Kennedy, president of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, at a briefing Wednesday evening, the day after she led a delegation to the Gulf Coast to assess the scope of the emerging healthcare crisis in the wake of the BP drilling disaster.
"The residents are sick," Kennedy said. "They don't know what the exact cause of their illness is, but because they never suffered this way before the spill and they were all out on their fishing boats throughout the clean-up, they suspect this has something to do with the toxins."

Accounts of death and illness rise as CDC continues to tout drug's merits.
The FDA has licensed the use of two vaccines, Cervarix and Gardasil, to protect boys and girls from the disease. Three doses administered at 11 or 12 years of age are recommended. While the vaccine is not on the immunization schedule for boys, vaccination is strongly encouraged for girls.
A wise recommendation, until you consider recent statistics. The CDC reports that as of June 22, 2011, there have been 68 deaths reported to VAERS, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, among children who died after receiving the Gardasil vaccine. Of the 35 million doses administered in the U.S., VAERS has received 18,727 reports of adverse reactions.

Pylons linked to babies' asthma: Hairdryers, vacuum cleaners and microwave also a risk, say scientists
Daily Mail, Aug. 1, 2011
Pregnant women who use hairdryers, microwaves, vacuum cleaners or who live near pylons could be putting their babies at risk of asthma, claim scientists.
They warn that exposing unborn children to potentially harmful magnetic energy produced by household appliances and power lines could treble their child’s chances of suffering from the condition.
Experts believe that the finding could partly explain why asthma rates in children have increased so dramatically in the last few decades.
